Wedding.con is a gripping true crime documentary that explores how five women, in pursuit of marriage, fall victim to conmen posing as grooms on digital platforms.
Wedding.con is a true crime documentary series that tells the unsettling stories of five women who set out to fulfill the universal dream of marriage. Their search for love, however, takes a dark turn when they are deceived, manipulated, and exploited by conmen posing as grooms on popular online platforms. Designing for documentaries requires a careful balance between creative storytelling and clear communication. For Wedding.con, the challenge lay in connecting the digital world with the physical realities of the victims' lives. The narrative unfolded across these two planes, and our role was to craft a design language that could seamlessly bridge them. To achieve this, we developed a Motion Design System supported by a detailed Style Guide that defined every visual element. This framework ensured consistency while also allowing space for creative nuance. By combining recreations, authentic photographs, and archival news footage, we created an immersive and coherent visual experience. Subtle techniques such as animating documents, using light flares, and highlighting keywords added depth to the storytelling while underscoring the investigative tone of the film. Information design played a crucial role in the narrative. Carefully designed astons, timelines, and maps provided clarity and impact, enabling viewers to follow the complex details of each case without distraction. Released on December 29, 2024, Wedding.con quickly captured public attention and rose to become the number one show on Netflix in India, establishing itself as a benchmark in true crime storytelling.
