Taru Naturals embodies a grassroots movement of more than 10,000 tribal and small-scale farmers across India. Founded in 2016 by Ruchi Jain with her mother Dr. Punam Jain, the initiative grew from a vision to support rural farmer livelihoods while reconnecting consumers with ancestral food traditions. They champion climate-resilient agriculture, organic farming, clean post-harvest technology, value-added products, and fair market access. Taru's mission is to regenerate rural ecosystems, scale up farmer incomes, and celebrate the sanctity of nature through Ayurvedic and tribal food wisdom. Our design brief focused on creating a packaging identity that reflects Taru's profound connection between people, place, and produce without resorting to clichéd motifs. We developed an integrated identity system that uses bold yet authentic visuals while crafting space for artisans' artworks. Each pack showcases traditional Gond paintings by artists coordinated through Tribes India, the Gondwana Art Project, and Creative Dignity. These illustrations highlight the cultural heritage of farming communities and become storytelling portals across products like khandsari sugar, wild red rice, Himalayan beans, and quinoa.

Given the constraints of the pandemic, our collaboration occurred digitally—including WhatsApp coordination for sketches and final artworks. The packaging doubles as a platform for these artists, elevating their reach and allowing direct patron connection. It also features QR-enabled traceability, letting consumers explore the journey from farm to table. This project redefines food packaging by anchoring it in community, craft, and transparency. The result is a design system that celebrates tribal artistry, advances equitable trade, and positions Taru Naturals not just as a food brand but as a movement deeply rooted in cultural and ecological integrity.
