This exhibition is an immersive engagement with the abundant and vibrant world of Indian salts — an exploration of the ecologically attuned ways and extraordinary practices of the people who harvest and shape this essential element of life. It unfolds as a slow and sensory journey through the vast coastal pans of Goa and southern India, the surreal salt-drenched deserts of Kutch and Rajasthan, the ancient pink caves of the Himalayan ranges, and the sacred mineral springs of Northeast India. Together, these landscapes reveal salt not only as substance, but as story — composing life, spirit, and community. This body of work brings together stories of the lands, people, and practices that give rise to India's many salts, each shaped by its environment and local knowledge. The exhibit moves beyond the idea of salt as a simple ingredient, presenting instead its complex, elemental presence — a force that sustains, preserves, and connects. Through spaces of sensory immersion, visitors are invited to encounter salt in all its dimensions: its nature and patterns, its myriad names and traditions, and the lived experiences of its makers. The exhibition invites attention, reflection, and wonder — to witness how salt, formed by time and the elements, continues to compose the rhythm of life itself.

The design approach for the exhibition is rooted in the geometry of salt itself. The natural shapes and forms of salt crystals — angular, precise, and elemental — are abstracted into a repeating pattern that becomes the exhibition's core visual language. This pattern functions as a quiet but constant backdrop, a visual field against which the many stories of salt unfold across landscapes, histories, and communities. Rendered primarily in stark black and white, the design mirrors salt's essential nature — pure, minimal, and uncompromising. The restrained palette creates a clean, contemplative language that echoes the crystalline structure of salt while allowing images, text, and artifacts to stand out with clarity. Together, the pattern and palette create an environment that is both immersive and understated, ensuring that the design does not overwhelm the narrative, but instead supports and amplifies the journey of salt through people, place, and time.
