Mool, located in Fort, Mumbai, is a bold celebration of India's culinary heritage—transforming treasured home recipes into a refined dining experience. The concept, rooted in the Sanskrit word "Mool," meaning "origin," centers on sourcing and honoring authentic dishes from home chefs across the country. Founders Dipti and Mithilesh Shetty, along with their team, embarked on a journey through 15 regions to document recipes, learn cultural stories, and build relationships with homemakers. Our role was to craft a brand identity that reflects this deep sense of rootedness and authenticity. We anchored the design around the concept of origin, translating it into a flexible yet grounded visual language. The logo—and its signature colon element—connects Mool to its home chef contributors, indicating that every dish is 'from the source.' This graphic motif extends fluidly across collateral, events, and digital platforms, reinforcing the brand's narrative-driven, community-first ethos. Mool's interiors mirror this philosophy. The minimalist décor, featuring origami-inspired lighting, soft hues, and subtle textures, creates an elegant canvas for storytelling. Menus showcase regional dishes like Kosha Mangsho, Gehat Ki Dal, and Kola Bhator Payok—each dish clearly credited to the home chef behind it—and a portion of proceeds goes back to them as royalties. Through a thoughtful identity and purpose-driven execution, Mool's brand truly embodies its mission: honoring the roots, stories, and people who bring regional Indian cuisine to life.
