For Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, we designed both the opening and end titles. The opening sequence used sharp, minimal typography to set an ominous tone, while the stylized end titles extended the film's narrative. Anchored in Bengal's red-and-white palette, the titles echoed the film's haunting and macabre visual language.
Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, produced by Yash Raj Films and Dibakar Banerjee Productions, reimagines Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay's legendary detective for a new generation. Directed by Dibakar Banerjee, the film's titles play a pivotal role in shaping its atmosphere, culminating in a striking epilogue that serves as the primary title design sequence at the film's conclusion. Our task was to craft titles that felt like an extension of the story world—continuing the narrative beyond the final scene. Using mixed media and visual elements drawn directly from the film, the end titles became a stylized interpretation of its cinematic language, offering a layered epilogue rather than a conventional credit roll. The opening titles, in contrast, were designed to be understated yet foreboding. Unfolding over footage, they employed a minimal typographic approach to signal the ominous, atmospheric world about to unfold. The chosen typeface, with its sharp angularity, avoided traditional serifs and carried an edge that mirrored the film's suspense. Both opening and closing titles were anchored by the palette of red and white—colors deeply rooted in Bengal's cultural identity. Beyond symbolism, these hues reinforced the visceral, artistic, and slightly macabre texture that permeates the narrative and visual tone of the film. Together, the titles bookended the film with a cohesive visual system that amplified its haunting, enigmatic character.
