Canopy Collective is a transdisciplinary conservation platform from Northeast India, uniting art, science, and community engagement to foster inclusive, decentralized approaches rooted in ecology and place-based collaboration.
Canopy Collective emerged as a response to the need for transformative, people-driven conservation in Northeast India. Operating from Living Labs in Assam, the platform champions ethical, inclusive, and decentralized approaches to wildlife conservation, working across art, science, design, and community engagement to dismantle silos and promote collective stewardship. We translated this philosophy into a visual identity rooted in the natural phenomenon of crown shyness, where tree canopies deliberately avoid touching, creating interlocking gaps that optimize resource-sharing and collective resilience. This metaphor beautifully aligns with Canopy Collective's ethos: a collaborative network of individuals and disciplines that maintain autonomy while enabling collective strength. The resulting logo abstracts elements of crown shyness into interlinked forms. At its center, a spine evokes the Brahmaputra River, anchoring the identity to the region and emphasizing place-based engagement. Beyond logo design, the identity system underscores Canopy Collective's mission: to empower emerging conservation leaders by harnessing creativity and aesthetics to broaden participation and spark action. The visual language functions across platforms, from digital communications to field materials, offering coherence and adaptability. With its blend of ecology-inspired form and regional grounding, this identity embodies Canopy Collective's vision: to reshape conservation by building inclusive, interdisciplinary networks rooted in place and purpose.
